Ropera: It’s a thing

I have noticed that a there’s a rather unmentioned music genre, which I will now title “ropera”. It could also be called “operock” or “rockera”. It’s a blending of rock and opera music. Odd, I know, but it exists and I think it needs to be brought to light. I’m not actually entirely certain how I feel about it, but it’s a reality that needs to be faced.

Here are some examples of some ropera tunes:

Queen was the first band to try out ropera. They are the original operock group.

Fun. also try out rockera in their song “Some Nights Intro”. There’s a wee bit of profanity in this one, so be prepared.

Muse goes for a bit of a classical/opera/rock mix in their new song “Survival”, which, incidentally, is also the theme for the 2012 Summer Olympics apparently. How exciting.

Interestingly, rock opera is a thing. But, according to Wikipedia, it’s a musical based on the music of a particular rock group. They have made rock operas for Green Day, Queen, and Nirvana. Fascinating.
