Paula Abdul: The Mullet of the Music World

I was talking about music from the late ’80s and early ’90s the other day and Paula Abdul came up. Sometimes I forget that Paula Abdul used to have a music career before she was, you know, nuts, but I suppose that’s technically how she got the job on American Idol. In case you too had forgotten about Paula Abdul’s singing career, here’s a little refresher:

After watching this video, I’ve come to the conclusion that Paula Abdul is not actually that good. It’s not really any wonder that her music career ended. I mean, she once did a music video with a cartoon cat, but I guess we shouldn’t hold her to that too much because people did a lot of crazy things in the ’80s. Point in case: mullets.

In general, this just raises the question of how exactly she could be considered an expert on singing at any point. Paula Abdul, at one point, judged people like Jennifer Hudson on their ability to sing. Jennifer Hudson.

In what world is Paula Abdul an expert on singing over Jennifer Hudson? Certainly not this one.

The cartoon cat sang better than the live action Paula Abdul.

The 80s were a time of bizarre music stars. If a guy named Taco and Falco can have hit singles, surely there’s a spot for the former Mrs. Estevez’ nasally whine and Laker Girl moves.

Paula was a Laker girl and a choreographer for other artists, and I believe she even won Grammys, so (batship crazy as she is), I’ll take her and her amphetamine-induced garble over a biplar Niki Minaj any day. Straight up. Plus, her “Rush, Rush” video was probably the best acting Keanu Reeves ever did.
