I’ve recently seen several tabloids criticizing Kim Kardashian’s pregnancy weight gain. This feels ridiculous to me for several reasons, but primarily because there are so many other things a person could potentially judge Kim Kardashian for. Women are supposed to put on weight when they have babies. There is whole other individual person growing in there. And yes, perhaps tight tan leather is not the most optimal material with which to clothe one’s pregnant body, but still that’s not the dumbest thing Kim Kardashian has ever done.
Beyond that, it’s not as if Kim Kardashian’s pregnancy is anywhere near as ridiculous as Jessica Simpson’s. True, neither of them seem capable of buying flattering maternity wear, but at least I can remember a time when Kim Kardashian was not pregnant. I think the problem is that they’re both miniature women and thus the amount of weight that they’ve gained looks disproportionate to their tiny, tiny statures.
What I think is even more outrageous is the assortment of people who have stepped forward to defend Kim Kardashian against the baby weight hate. Having Gwyneth Paltrow as a defender is nothing compared to having Gloria Steinem speak out on your behalf. I really, really hope that Kim Kardashian takes the time to google Gloria Steinem.
I just think that the woman who once said “I hate when women wear the wrong foundation colour. It might be the worst thing on the planet when they wear their makeup too light” should be judged for other reasons than gaining weight while pregnant.
