Happy Halloween from your favourite Asparagus

Today’s Halloween (obviously. I very much doubt some of you have just read this and thought, “holy crap, really? I’d totally forgotten!”) and I’m pretty excited about it. I mean, I also ate a regrettable amount of baked goods at work, topped off with a chocolate and caramel covered apple (on a stick), which has made me feel a bit jittery, like my heart is pinging off the inside of my rib cage. This probably has a lot to do with my feeling of excitement, if I’m being honest. Continue reading

R. Kelly and Lady Gaga: The Weirdest Pairing Since Pickles and Peanut Butter

Lady Gaga’s new song is called “Do What U Want” and it features R. Kelly. If you want to check it out, there’s an audio of it in this Buzzfeed article. Continue reading

I ate stuffing for dinner and other various confessions

Today for my blog post, I don’t so much have one coherent idea as much as a random list of thoughts and events that have happened to me in the past week or so. It won’t make very much sense, but hopefully some of you will find at least one thing vaguely amusing or, dare I say, thought-provoking. Continue reading

Car Singing: Hanson Should Always Be Involved

On Friday night (technically Saturday morning), while driving home from a friends’ house at a very early morning hour, I experienced what was undoubtedly the best car sing-along session of my life. It started with a heartfelt rendition of “Colours of the Wind” and ended with the most glorious “Bohemian Rhapsody” duet I’ve ever heard in real life. Continue reading

This Has Perhaps Gone Too Far…

I really, really like One Direction. It’s embarrassing, but I can’t help it. On the weekend, Julia and I watched some One Direction music videos with our roommate Dominique, who is probably about 80% to blame for my unfortunate addiction to this boy band (it’s okay because I’m 100% to blame for her Candy Crush addiction). We watched them after also watching Miley Cyrus’s “We Can’t Stop” and “Wrecking Ball” as well as Christina Aguilera’s “Dirty”. It’s an odd selection of music, I’ll admit. They’re also very, very different. “Dirty” occurred during X-Tina’s perhaps most intense face. Her hair is slightly cornrowed, which is never really a good look for a white person, and she’s wearing bum-less chaps, which is also not a spectacularly good look for most people (she’s not not pulling it off, though). And I’m sure you’ve all seen the Miley Cyrus videos at this point, so I’m not even going to touch on either of them, except to say giant teddy bear backpacks, an interesting style choice. It’s Time For Another Radio Rant

I recently bought my very first car. It’s from 1997 and it used to belong to a 97 year old man, but it’s new to me. My manager Febreezed the hell out of it for me and now it smells like an elderly man in a citrus grove. Very nice. Continue reading

What I’ve Been Listening To

This has been an excellent two weeks music-wise for me. ALL the good things came out and I’m really excited about all of it. Seriously, I dance in my car on the way to work every morning now that I a) don’t have to listen to the radio, and b) I get to listen to magical, magical things. Continue reading

Pioneers Had It Rough

I am unbelievably pleased to have internet access once again. And, on top of that, to have my own phone back again. Just the most wonderful things in the world. As Julia said, it was like living as a pioneer and I was the most pioneer out of everyone. I mean, minus the wood-chopping and bonnets and stuff. Continue reading

“So…do you hate your roommates yet?”

Julia and I, as you will already know, have recently moved into an apartment with two of our friends, Dominique, more commonly known as Cricket (at least around our house), and Carolyn, or C-Biscuit (with a French accent). Our apartment is lovely, we have tonnes of space (so much so that it makes our furniture look tiny), and an extremely friendly cat that hangs about. Our neighbours across the street are very concerned about our parking situation and are always giving us helpful tips, like “don’t park on the street, the drunk students will rip your mirrors off”. Ah, friendly neighbourly advice. Continue reading

Let’s Talk About How Boring Harry Potter Would’ve Been with the Two of Us

Last night, Julia and I watched the sixth Harry Potter movie. For those of you who live under a rock and don’t know, that’s  Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I don’t know why I chose that one specifically, but I did. So deal with it. In any case, Julia made the comment that, if she was in the place of Harry, nothing would ever have happened because the majority of the things that he does is not something she would ever consider doing. And I agree. Continue reading
